Little George is my action figure alter ego who likes to show up in pictures with random people, places, and celebrities. He was born out of a mixture of frustration and vanity back in 2001. Allow me to explain…
My name is George and I work at a toy prototype company. Thanks to a friend of mine (Pete) and I being in the right place at the right time, we were hired to go on tour with Rob Zombie as stage crew/monsters
. I knew that I would be meeting celebrities during the tours and I would want to have my picture taken with them. One problem though - I always hate the way pictures come out when you hand your camera to someone else. Like they say, if you want something done right, do it yourself.
So now I had to figure out how to take the picture and be in the picture at the same time. Not an easy task, but I had an idea. I make toys of people. Why not create a Little George figure that people could hold while I took the picture?
I’m a genius!
So here's a rundown of how I made Little George. First thing first - get myself scanned. Gentle Giant Studios
in Burbank, California does life scanning for action figures, movies, and video games. After getting my head scanned (see picture), it was output by a machine in wax. I then quickly sculpted and painted a copy and slapped it on a modified N*SYNC doll.
For added realism, I made decals of all of my tattoos (I had eight at the time) and put those on him. Now Little George is ready to go.
In October 2001 Pete, Little George, and I set off for tour. It was hard work, but one of the best times of my life. As I had anticipated, we ran into all sorts of famous and not so famous people. Some people loved Little George,
some people hated him.
No one, however, turned down having their picture taken with Little George.
After five months on tour, I had two books worth of Little George photos. He had kind of become a little mascot. So I kept taking peoples pictures with Little George. One day I asked myself, “Self…what am I going to do with all of these pictures with Little George?” Viola! This website was born.
Now it’s your turn to get in on the Little George fun. I want YOUR picture with Little George to put up on littlegeorge.com! Maybe you’ll even be the featured picture on the home page!
